Company Overview
HGS (India) Limited (HGSI), formerly known as Geosource India Limited, is a proud member of the SOWAR Group. Established in 1986 in technical collaboration with Sensor Nederland B.V., Netherlands, the Company set up a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Plot No. 37-38, Udyog Vihar Phase-IV, Gurgaon, Haryana to produce geophysical equipment. It progressed to a much larger factory at 158, Sector-4, IMT Manesar in 2008. HGSI commenced commercial production in 1988 and, over the years, successfully indigenized its processes and adopted total quality management to deliver high-quality products at competitive prices. In 2015, HGSI broke away with Sensor Nederland and formed its own 100% subsidiary in Holland and recruited ex-employees of Sensor in its Dutch unit, namely, HGS Products B.V. Unbeknown to it, Sensor Nederland went from being a coveted geophone manufacturer to a company bereft of its skill management and finally its parent company, ION Inc went into bankruptcy in 2023. HGSI became the true manufacturer of the Sensor range of products and is well recognised as one the world’s three leading geophone manufacturers. The Dutch entity acts as its European arm and doubles as the R & D centre for new geophone models.
Expansion into related product lines
HGSI primarily started as a manufacturer catering to the seismic industry for oil and gas, minerals, coal & lignite exploration, and its key customer base was the seismic contractors and large O & G companies running their own seismic crews. The main products were restricted to geophone strings and seismic cables. As the focus on hydrocarbon exploration progressively diminished over the last decade due to global warming, HGSI began a concerted effort to explore other applications for its product-line as well as expanding its offering by partnering reputed companies manufacturing related geophysical equipment. With an emphasis on the Make in India Scheme, HGSI embarked on indigenization and local assembly with these high technology companies. Some examples of such partnerships were the development of a 500Kg Accelerated Weight Drop System powered by a JCB for source generation and control in seismic surveys; commencing assembly of seismographs and Triggering Systems (shooting devices) for seismic services; and continuously developing high-sensitivity low frequency geophones designed for more accurate earthquake monitoring. Its latest foray has been in avalanche and rock fall monitoring with 24x7 early warning monitoring systems to prevent mishaps in mountainous terrains. A partnership with GeoDevice Inc Canada to assemble Overhauser Magnetometers in India will be the first of its kind and will pivot HGSI as a true one-stop shop for all kinds of geophysical equipment.
Custom Built Facilities
HGSI’s state-of-the-art factory is located in Manesar, Haryana close to New Delhi airport, with one part of the unit dedicated entirely to the manufacture of a complete range of geophone elements. In the other area of the factory, one bay houses all the heavy machinery including 5 extrusion lines, 15 moulding machines, a machine shop housing 2 German Traubs for machining geophone parts, and a large number of pairing, bunching and multi-planetary stranding machines. The first floor bay is the main assembly area and can accommodate over 100 wiremen and ancillary staff to ensure rapid production of the Company’s products.

The company is accredited with ISO 9001:2015 (TÜV SÜD) for design, engineering, and manufacturing, and has also received ZED Gold Certification under the MSME Sustainable Certification Scheme
